Have you ever heard conflicting messages about nutrition? Coffee is good, coffee is bad. Eggs are good, no eggs are bad. Ugh! What are you supposed to eat?
One of the reasons so many different foods have conflicting messages is because it depends on your genes. You know, what your mama gave you! Quick science lesson: ½ your genes come from your biological female life-giver and the other ½ come from your biological male life-giver in the form of chromosomes. Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes and within them there are over 20,000 genomes. These genes have combined to create you.
You are a super individualized person, so why are you following cookie cutter diet plans designed the same for everyone? Maybe you have noticed that some of your friends do not seem to have the same issue staying motivated when working towards their health goals. What if I told you that you may not be seeing the same success as your friends because of your genes.
Ok, so you may be thinking, “that’s cool and interesting, but I don’t know what my genes are. I mean I could ask my biological parents about their health history and get a glimpse that way but how can I know for sure what I should be eating based on my genetics.”
Enter NUTRIGENOMICS.
Nutrigenomics… What the fork is nutrigenomics?
Nutrigenomics is the study of how individual genetic variation affects your response to nutrients and impacts the risk of nutrition-related chronic diseases. Individual genetic variations can affect how you respond to the foods, beverages and supplements you consume. This can lead to different people having success with different diets where others do not. Even your preference for sugar and susceptibility to hunger are genetically linked.
Who’s genes are you wearing?
I believe information about yourself can be empowering and can help you create an individual plan to help you meet your health goals. Nutrigenomics enables us to use nutrition to its fullest potential to prevent, manage or improve various health issues. All my Own Your Life clients get a report through Nutrigenomix. This report includes 70 genes and provides actionable information for nutrient metabolism, cardiometabolic health, food intolerances, eating habits, physical activity, and injury risk. The test is done with a quick, simple, non-invasive saliva test or cheek swab. If you want to learn more about this check out www.nutrigenomix.com.
I combine the science of nutrigenomics with the science of intuitive eating to help you reach and maintain your health goals. This allows you to get to know and understand a whole lot about yourself that you did not know before. Plus, I am there the whole time to help you make sense of it and create actionable items. This gets you to a place where you can feel confident that the foods you are eating and the measures you are taking are right for your health and specific goals.
